Alfred Peet wasn’t trying to start a coffee revolution when he set up shop as Peet’s Coffee in Berkeley, CA back in 1966. He just thought Americans deserved a real cup of coffee. Five decades later, we hold true to his vision: sourcing directly from the world’s finest estates, handroasting to order in small batches, and making sure every cup is brewed as fresh and full-flavored as possible. Alfred Peet learned the coffee trade while caring for roasting and grinding machinery at B. Koorn & Company, his father’s coffee and tea business in Alkmaar, Holland. He skipped college, Moved to London to pursue the importing of coffee and tea and Continued to make things with his hands and fiddle with machines.
