A Monument to the Bear Flag Revolt
Bear Flag Monument (also known as Raising of the Bear Flag) is a public artwork located at the Sonoma Plaza and listed as a California Historical Landmark. This bronze sculpture features a man standing on a 40-ton rock and holding a flag. The monument was dedicated on June 14, 1914.
The Bear Flag Revolt took place over 25 days in 1846, when a small group of townspeople rebelled against the Mexican government and proclaimed California an independent republic.
